I might be a stalker!

Definition of a stalker: to prey stealthily; to pursue obsessively and to the point of harassment.

Okay, it's a known fact that I have been a huge fan of the artist James C. Christensen for many years. I was completely surprised when we looked at this house to buy to find out that he was in this neighborhood. I have had to really work on just seeing and knowing him as a regular person instead of a super celebrity. (On top of being a normal person, he is very kind, generous and super funny.)

Anyway, last night we had our church Christmas progressive dinner. The last house we went to was HIS house. I told Steve of this funny thought I had. What if I snuck off and hid somewhere in his house and spent the whole night there. I pictured being in a little closest somewhere in the house and calling Steve on the cell and saying, "I am so in!" Maybe reporting every few hours. Then sneak out in the morning and come home celebrating that I actually hid out and spent a whole night in his house. Hee hee! Well, Steve told me that although that's a funny thought, the act could be considered a little criminal by the authorities. DANG!

Now that you know a little of my state of mind when it comes to my feelings about the artist, and not the normal person, James, perhaps you can understand a bit of my craziness. You'll be glad to know that I did not break the law.

However...

Long story short: His daughter, Cassie, who is also an amazing artist and has talent pouring out from all over her. (Plus, she's very, very funny.) She asked my mom and I if we wanted to see the studio. (Oh my heck, like totally for sure! A dream come true.) We went up and had a mini tour of his incredible studio. I think you'd need like a whole day just to see everything. We only had minutes, since we were sort of sneaky about it. If James ever reads this, let's just be clear about one thing - IT WAS CASSIE'S IDEA.

One thing lead to another and while cracking up, we pulled out the camera. Yes, that is me sitting in his chair, pretending to paint. Very important to note - NO ART WAS EVER TOUCHED at all during this. It looks like it in the pictures but I promise I would never ever do that. It's some sort of sin. I got close but never touched. I did pretend to lick my finger and then pretend to wipe off some paint. Remember--I was pretending. On our way out I noticed a 2-liter of Dr. Pepper and asked about it. When I found out it was his I just had to (pretend) to swig some down.

The evening was filled with wonderful food and friends, but I have to say that the highlight for me (being the stalker that I might be) was the studio and our pictures. Thanks Cassie (and unknowingly, James) for a great time!

It's a great time whenever YOU are there...and your cute mom too.
Thanks for the birthday gift. It's really quite perfect seeing as how I like my tea in a bigger mug and I only have one and it's always in the dishwasher...you are good!
I'm trying to think of who I want to stalk.
Cheers. C

That's hilarious. And I'm a bit jealous. I'd love to tour the studio. :) I had the same experience (WHO lives around the corner??) moving into this ward, after following his art for 10 years or so. Too bad I had to miss it (company party) or I'm sure I would have been up there snooping, I mean, observing, with you! :)

So, I guess that makes me the mother of a stalker (since I went along with the studio tour, too). What a great time we had. I was the "outsider" but everyone made me feel so welcomed. The homes we visited were awesome. Oh, and the food was great, too! Merry Christmas to all. Mom

Yes I'm back!!! woo hoo! LOVED reading the stalker story, and catching up on you. I can so hear your voice as I read these posts. You have such a great sense of humor. I've really missed you. It's been too long and I think about you all the time. When can we possibly get together? January 09?

I should totally be saying I can't believe you did something like this, but it is SO you! I will vouch that Deanna was a huge fan of James' way, way before she moved to the same neighborhood. We always knew what to get her for a gift--anything with a J.C.C print.
