I was so sick of paying too much for bread.
It's made from the most basic ingredients.
Gas prices have gone down,
so why isn't bread cheap?
Because of my frustration about this I have been making our bread for almost a month now. It's Heaven! I don't know if I could ever go back to "store bought" bread again. Bread is so easy, quick and cheap to make. The taste is delicious and it makes the best toast ever!
Homemade bread also looks beautiful. Even before the loaves go into the oven I think they look so pretty. Then when they fall out perfectly from the pan onto the wire rack I just have to pat them because they are so nice looking. Of course, I have the same feelings when we slice into a loaf. Ahhhh...pure beauty!
What took me so long?
FYI--I love the 5 lb. bag of High Altitude Hungarian Stone Ground Style Whole Wheat Flour.
It's under three dollars at Target.

Deanna, good for you! Your house must smell positively dreamy!
Your blog entry reminds me of the quote by Spencer W. Kimball that refers to how every child deserves to come home to fresh baked bread.
What a cool expression of love for your family!
Deanna: I know we're all on different skill levels here on earth, but you've just passed up your Mom. When I return from the desert, I need to come visit for some bread - and a baking lesson from my daughter. So proud . . . good for you!!
Oh mom, I can't even hem Jessica's pants or make my own curtains. You are so ahead of me in the skills department.
The desert is getting too hot, you need to come back soon.
These look beautiful. And I'm so proud of you for taking a photo of it.:) Doesn't look like whole wheat though. You said you love the whole wheat flour at Target so I'm assuming that's what you used. May have to try this myself. Thanks for the inspiration. I even showed it to Lynn!
